Pump Design Software called the PUMP DESIGN CODE™ (PDC) is used for rapid design improvements of existing pumps or for the design of new centrifugal pumps of various types. The PDC pump design software has been applied to pumps between 300 to 16000 NS (US units), which are not the limits.

The latest PDC Version 4.3 is available since March 2008.

The PDC was applied successfully to the design of single stage pumps from less than 1 BHP to as much as 16000 BHP and multistage boilerfeed pumps up to 40000 BHP. Pump capacities between 1 GPM to 210000 GPM.

The PDC runs on high-end IBM compatible PC's, including Intel's new Core 2 Duo processors. The PDC operates in Metric or US units.

The PDC development started in 1970 and still continues today. The PDC is the world's highest developed specialized hydraulic design software for pumps and comes with an affordable price tag.

The PDC represents the accumulated knowledge of hydraulic pump design at this time. The best work of Pfleiderer, Stepanoff, Wesche, Bunjes, Pearsal, Katsanis and countless others, including the work of the author, have been assembled in a seamless computer code. The PDC allows to quantify the hydraulic impeller design in numbers and assures that a new impeller design will not fail prematurely in its designated service. No empirical calculations are used. All applicable equations are based on ASME or Hydraulic Institute standards.

The PDC also features Inverse Vane Design.

The PDC contains the built-in CFD code MERIDL/TSONIC developed by NASA. (See below).

A 450 page Manual explains in detail the use of the PUMP DESIGN CODE (in English). Four Tutorials show how the software is used for the design of different pump types.

The PDC is a Windows application and runs under WIN 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP. For the time being the PDC is not approved for Vista, because of associated CAD problems.

Progressive Pump companies are using the PDC in the USA, Canada, South America, Europe and India.

IMPELLER DESIGN

WRITING INPUT TO THE PDC

Each PDC file contains an INPUT program that asks line for line for input for design or analysis. More complex situations are referenced to the PDC Manual or Tutorials. Calculates maximum RPM based prevailing NPSH condition.

Impeller profile lines (hub, centerline, shroud) can be written to the PDC directly via keyboard. Each profile input accommodates up to 3 radii and a straight line at various angles near the impeller outside diameter. No Bezier splines required. Any new or existing impeller profile can be entered.

Very unusual existing impeller profiles can be imported via DXF files from your CAD system.

For impeller audits the existing vane shape can be imported via DXF files into the PDC, if the hydraulic layout is available on CAD. If it is not on CAD, the data can be keyed in by hand. Click here to see a sample picture of an input drawing.
